Summary

Uropathology has undergone a significant evolution over the past decade. While histomorphology remains the cornerstone of diagnosis, advances in immunohistochemistry, molecular pathology, and digital pathology have profoundly transformed diagnostic algorithms and clinical decision-making. New WHO classifications, the identification of actionable molecular alterations, and the rapid development of AI-based tools have expanded the diagnostic and prognostic capabilities of the pathologist.


However, challenges remain in integrating these technologies into routine practice, defining their true clinical impact, and maintaining a balanced, evidence-based approach. This Special Issue aims to address these challenges by bridging traditional pathology with advanced diagnostic technologies, clarifying the clinical relevance of novel biomarkers and molecular findings, providing practical guidance on the appropriate use of AI in uropathology, and promoting an integrated diagnostic model that supports precision medicine in urology.


The aim and scope of the Special Issue shall be highlighted. to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of modern uropathology, highlighting the progressive integration of traditional morphologic pathology with immunohistochemistry, molecular diagnostics, and artificial intelligence (AI).


The primary objectives are to:
-Emphasize the continuing central role of morphologic evaluation in urologic pathology.
-Illustrate how immunohistochemical and molecular tools refine diagnosis, prognostication, and therapeutic stratification.
-Explore current and emerging applications of artificial intelligence in uropathology, including diagnostic accuracy, grading, risk stratification, and workflow optimization.
-Provide clinically relevant insights for urologists, pathologists, and oncologists involved in the multidisciplinary management of urologic diseases.
