Research Interests: psychological and central mechanisms of sexual dysfunction

Summary
Sexual dysfunction, particularly those influenced by psychological factors, has become a growing global concern, with prevalence rates steadily rising. Despite its high incidence, psychological sexual dysfunction remains underdiagnosed, undertreated, and understudied, particularly in comparison to other reproductive health issues. External pressures, such as work stress, relationship difficulties, and mental health conditions (e.g., depression and anxiety), are key contributors to the increasing prevalence of sexual dysfunction. This dysfunction can significantly impact sexual satisfaction, mental health, and intimate relationships.
Recent advances in psychology and neurobiology have provided valuable insights into the complex relationship between mental health and sexual function. Evidence continues to underscore the central role of psychological factors in sexual dysfunction. This highlights the importance of integrating psychological health, cognitive neuroscience, and pharmacological research into sexual health diagnosis and treatment. Improving the diagnosis and treatment methods for psychological sexual dysfunction is crucial for enhancing the quality of life for affected individuals.
This Special Issue aims to explore the complexities of psychological sexual dysfunction, focusing on the interaction between mental health and sexual function. It will highlight innovative diagnostic methods, treatment strategies, and the broader social and psychological implications of this condition.
Suggested Themes but not limited:
- Psychological Factors in Sexual Dysfunction: The impact of anxiety, depression, and relationship stress on sexual function.
- Neurobiological Mechanisms of Sexual Dysfunction: Advances in neuroimaging, cognitive neuroscience, and neurochemistry.
- Assessment and Diagnosis of Psychological Sexual Dysfunction: Innovative clinical evaluation tools and psychological screening methods.
- Therapeutic Interventions for Psychological Sexual Dysfunction: The role of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness techniques, and pharmacological treatments.
- Psychological Sexual Dysfunction as a Reflection of Mental Health Issues: Understanding the bidirectional relationship between sexual dysfunction and mental health.
- Cross-Cultural Perspectives on Psychological Sexual Dysfunction: The impact of cultural norms and gender differences on the diagnosis and treatment of psychological sexual dysfunction.
This Special Issue invites original research, comprehensive reviews, and clinical studies that contribute to a deeper understanding of psychological sexual dysfunction and its treatment. We aim to bridge the gap between psychological health and sexual medicine, providing an integrated approach to improve the well-being and sexual satisfaction of affected individuals.
